The committee formed by the municipal corporation (MC) in February to look for an alternative site for the Sector 7 car bazaar has failed to suggest even a single site.
In this regard, Varinder Chaudhary, MC joint commissioner, shot off a letter of MC chief engineer Mukesh Anand on Thursday to speed up the work and suggest a suitable name at the earliest.
Mayor Poonam Sharma had formed the panel under then additional commissioner Sunil Bhatia, with other officers as its members, on February 19 after the House decided to shift the car bazaar due to a demand for an alternative site before the auction of the Sector 7 car bazaar sites. The panel was given three months.
Nominated councillor Major DS Sandhu (retd) said, “The committee formed by the mayor was given a three-month time. It’s been nine months, they are just passing the buck,”he said.
Another nominated councillor Surinder Bahga said, “The UT adviser has rightly pointed out that the officials are arrogant and believe in shrugging off the responsibility.”
Slamming the MC officials, car bazzar association chief Gulshan Kumar questioned, “Why was the auction held, and why did they take money from us for the Sector-7 site. This is mockery of the system.”
PRESENT SITE IS CONGESTED
The Sector-7 market on Madhya Marg —where the car bazaar is organised every Sunday — isn’t suitable due to limited space. Around 2,000 cars are put up for sale at the market every Sunday, creating a lot of inconvenience to the visitors.
However, sources say the MC is planning to shift it to the Sector-34 ground.
