The Bathinda Counter Intelligence have arrested an inter-state drug peddler and seized 9 kilogram of opium from him.

The accused, Jatinder Singh Jinder, is a resident of Paras Ram Nagar in Bathinda and was involved in the supply of drugs for the past few years.

The accused used innovative methods to hide drugs.

The CI officials nabbed the accused with the opium that was being brought in the diesel tank of a modified car on Monday. The opium was being carried in four bottles of soft drinks. AIG Ajay Maluja carried the operation along with other officials.

IG Jatindra Jain said, "A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Canal Colony police station in Bathinda."

"We have nabbed a number of drug smugglers who had modified their vehicles for supply of drugs, but the accused was using a novel method as he was conversant with the working of cars, having worked as a car mechanic earlier. During the interrogation, the accused admitted that for the past many years he was supplying the opium in Bathinda, Mansa, Muktsar and Faridkot districts. The accused used to bring the opium from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and cross all state borders easily without getting into the police trap.

When the accused entered Bathinda, he was caught near the agriculture office. He used to bring the opium for Rs 35,000 per kg and sell it for Rs 70,000 per kg in Bathinda, Muktsar, Faridkot and Mansa districts, said Jain.
