A year after expulsion, student vandalises govt school near Chandigarh

Police claim that the accused locked the security guard of the school, Sanju, after thrashing him. They then went on a rampage, damaging the property of the school for next 10-15 minutes.

An 18-year-old resident of Dadumajra Colony, who had been expelled from Government Model Senior Secondary School in the colony for poor attendance last year, returned to the institution on Sunday late night, only to vent his ire and vandalise property. He also brought in an accomplice, but the now the police have arrested the main accused, Krishan, 18, and Chintu, 19. Both of them were in an inebriated state, the police have said.

Principal of GMSSS, Dadumajra Colony, Chitranjan Singh had lodged a complaint with the police accusing Krishan and Chintu of vandalising the school. The accused were identified and arrested on the basis of the CCTVs installed in the school.

With their arrest police have also claimed to solved the case of setting vehicles in fire in the Dadumajra Colony on October 21 night.

“Krishan, who had studied till Class 9 in the school, and his accomplice Chintu, had entered the school at about 130 am on the intervening night of October 22-23 and vandalised school property,” the principal’s complaint to the police said. “Krishan was expelled as he hardly attended school. He had failed twice,” the principal added, saying that he had collected his school-leaving certificate in May.

Police claim that the accused locked the security guard of the school, Sanju, after thrashing him. They then went on a rampage, damaging the property of the school for next 10-15 minutes. The accused broke 200 flower pots and four fans in corridors as well as in classrooms and doors. The guard called the police and they ran away only when the PCR van came on the spot.

A case has been registered under Sections 452 (house trespass), 342 (wrongful confinement), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 ( assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage) and Section 3 of prevention of damage to public property act in police station Maloya.

Accused also faces murder charge

As per police record, Krishan is also named as accused in number of cases including Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), dacoity and 377 (sodomy) at the Sector-39 police station. These were registered in 2016.

With their arrest police have also claimed to solved the case of setting vehicles in fire in the Dadumajra Colony on October 21 night. Three two-wheelers and a three-wheeler were gutted in a fire in Dadumajra colony. In this case, Shubham of the Dadumajra Colony, had alleged that two unknown people had set a motorcycle, Activa, Bullet motorcycle and an autorickshaw on fire parked near his residence on October 21.

In that incident, a case under Section 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage) of the Indian Penal Code was registered in police station Maloya, Chandigarh.
