The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday expelled Punjabi singer-actor-turned-politician Jassi Jasraj for six years over alleged anti-party activities.
Jassi had been speaking against the party leadership for long, uploading videos in which the alleged lack of internal democracy in the AAP has been described in strong language. In the 2014 Lok Sabha contest, Jassi, whose full name is Jasraj Singh Longia, had surprised many by securing the AAP ticket from Bathinda, where he lost. It was then alleged that Jassi had entered the contest reluctantly under the Akali pressure to make the fight triangular. Jassi secured nearly 88,000 votes. Congress candidate Manpreet Singh Badal gave chief minister’s daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) a run for her money and she won by barely 20,000 votes.
Confirming the expulsion of Jassi, AAP’s state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur said the party had been forced to enforce discipline after many warnings to the leader. “Jassi has been making parallel programmes in the area without consulting either the party volunteers or senior leaders. He makes appointments the same way and defames the party on the social media,” Chhotepur added.

About Bhagwant Mann
You should forget your old loyalty to the People’s Party of Punjab and start being loyal to Punjab. Your desperation to become CM has clipped the wings of others in the party.
Stop doing the drama of getting people from outside and putting siropas around their necks. Have you not found even 117 good candidates among the volunteers? In the AAP, even a convener is an aam aadmi (common man). It is not the Congress or the Akali Dal from where he has come. If the AAP wants, it can make a common volunteer state convener. There’s nothing special about the post.
Don’t make a mixed-veg of the party by getting people from other parties. If the AAP leadership is going to get people like Gurpreet Bhatti into the party, it does not speak much of the AAP leadership.
