The local unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday held a dharna against the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) government in the state over deteriorating law and order problem in Punjab.

The party took out a protest march and submitted a memorandum to the additional deputy commissioner in this regard.

Earlier, the AAP workers gathered at the local Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall and proceeded towards the district administrative complex in a procession, raising slogans against the state government.

Holding party flags, the workers raised slogans similar to those heard on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in Delhi recently. They were raising slogans such as “Sanu Ki chaida.. Chutkaara!”, Badde Badal ton Chutkara, Chhotte Badal ton chhutkara, Chitte waleyaan ton chhutkara !”. Later they also sat on dharna in front of the administrative complex.

AAP’s zonal observer Rajiv Choudhary and journalistturned-politician Major Singh addressed the gathering and held the government responsible for a situation where criminals are looting and killing innocent people without any fear.

“The crime graph is rising in Punjab. City residents are scared to venture out of their houses during odd times. The Badals are responsible for this as the focus of the government has become looting the people,” said Major Singh,

Party’s zonal observer termed the SAD-BJP and Congress as the two sides of the same coin. The Congress was also shedding crocodile tears over the law and order problem in the state whereas their own MLAs are seen taking law in their own hands and beating their own party workers, he said.
