The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a free national membership drive called “Main bhi Aam Aadmi” here.

“We have a target of achieving maximum membership by January 26,” HP state coordinator and national member of the AAP Deshraj Sharma said on Friday.

He said that membership applications were also being received online and this special membership drive would end on January 26.

“Now, one can become member of the party without paying even a single penny. Earlier, people had to pay `10 to become a member of the party.” Sharma said.

Sharma said that nearly 15,000 people from across the country join the party every day. The party founded by Arvind Kejriwal over a year ago has seen a dramatic surge in its membership.

“One can join the party in five ways. An SMS can be sent or a missed call can be given on 077982 20033. One can also register himself on the AAP website and can go to a membership camp or fill a form attaching a copy of the voter ID card, Sharma said.

If anyone wants to become a member of the party through SMS, he can send his name, STD code and name of his constituency in the text message, he said.

“The AAP volunteers will hold camps in various parts of the state so that people do not face inconvenience in getting their names registered with the party.”
