AAP MLAs condole demise of Punjab CM Amarinder’s mother

They expressed their condolences on the demise of the ‘Rajmata’ and recalled her “great” contribution post-partition and later in her political and social life.

A group of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, led by Sukhpal Khaira and H S Phoolka, on Saturday met Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh to condole the death of his mother ‘Rajmata’ Mohinder Kaur.

They expressed their condolences on the demise of the ‘Rajmata’ and recalled her “great” contribution post-partition and later in her political and social life.

The duo, along with AAP legislators Pirmal Singh Dhaula , Jagtar Singh Jagga and Kulwant Singh, met Amarinder and other members of the family at the New Moti Bagh Palace this evening.

Earlier in the day, several other dignitaries, industrialists and others met the chief minister to convey their sympathies.

Among those who called on Amarinder were Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and his predecessors, Giani Puran Singh and Joginder Singh Vedanti.

Jathedar Gurbachan Singh expressed his sympathies on the demise of the ‘Rajmata’ and performed ‘ardas’ for the departed soul, said an official release here.

He also presented ‘siropas’ to the chief minister and his family members, it said.

A group of senior ex-army officers, including Gen. R S Sujlana, Gen. B S Thakar, Gen. Sarabh Dhillon, Gen. Chetwinder and Gen. Tarlochan Singh, GOC 1st Armoured Division and Maj Gen. Sandeep, also called on Amarinder.

Several Congress leaders, including Kewal Singh Dhillon, Pratap Singh Bajwa and Fateh Bajwa also met him.

The evening saw ‘shabad kirtan’ reverberate in the palace, where the Rajmata’s antim ardas will be held tomorrow afternoon.

The ‘antim ardas’ and ‘bhog’ ceremony will mark the culmination of the religious ceremonies to pray for the departed soul.

The ‘Rajmata’ had passed away on Monday evening after prolonged illness
