The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced to seek support of khaps in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to connect with masses in the hinterland.
It was announced by AAP national executive member Navin Jaihind at the party office here on Tuesday.
Jaihind, who was with the party since Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption movement said, "Some leaders are misusing the name of khaps, while khaps have been raising the voice of common man. AAP has decided to rope in khap leaders to reach the last man in the state with the ideology of the party."
Jaihind, who hails from Rohtak demanded white paper from chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on the recruitment done in last 10 years in his regime and on toll tax policy and special economic zone.
Notably, khaps were known to hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons such as honour killings, skewed sex ratio and issuing bizarre diktats. Supreme Court had also termed khap panchayat congregation and passing diktats unconstitutional
Meanwhile, former Delhi University professor and Haryana public service commission (HPSC) member D.R Chaudhry, a known critic of khap panchayats has recently joined AAP in presence of senior party leader Yogender Yadav.
