Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Thursday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is weighing all options, including fielding a Hindu face, for the byelection to Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat.
“The party nominee will be named in 2-3 days. We will have a local candidate and not any paratrooper from outside,” Khaira said after a meeting of MLAs and office-bearers of AAP and Lok Insaaf Party, its alliance partner, at Chandigarh. The state unit has shortlisted three candidates and will send its recommendation to the party’s apex body, political affairs committee, after another round of discussion.

The Punjab unit leaders, who had a three-hour-long meeting, decided the election strategy and duties, dividing the constituency into zones and blocks. The poll duties will be formally assigned in a day or two.
The Gurdapur constituency has a mix of Hindu and Sikh dominated segments with the BJP having done well in four of the last five elections.
