Abohar Akali leader Shiv Lal Doda is yet to have a challan (charge sheet) filed against him in last December’s case of a Dalit’s murder at his farmhouse.
The names of 24 other accused, however, were on the charge sheet, Abohar superintendent of police (SP) Harjit Singh claimed in a status-report affidavit before the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday during the resumed hearing of petitions related to the murder. He added that investigation against Doda was on.
The petition for moving the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was adjourned for April 23. The court is also to decide on a similar petition by the parents of murder victim Bheem and the brother of Gurjant Singh Janta, whose limbs were severed by Doda’s alleged henchmen at the Akali liquor baron’s farmhouse.
The petitioners said police had not even named Doda and his nephew, Amit, as accused in the initial FIR (first-information report), and added their names only after public protests. The parents of both Bheem and Gurjant also submitted that they had no faith in police investigation.
