Absent for 14 years, Ludhiana govt school teacher dismissed

A social studies teacher, who has been absent from the city government school for last 14 years was finally been terminated by the education department.

A social studies teacher, who has been absent from the city government school for last 14 years was finally been terminated by the education department.

Sharanjit Kaur a teacher at the Government High School, Salem Tabri was terminated from services for being absent from duty since February 14, 2003 from the school.

Interestingly, Kaur, who was absent for 14 years had retired on May 31, 2012. The director public instructions (DPI) secondary, Balbir Singh Dhol has terminated her for being absent from last 14 years.

The DPI office issued a public notice on August 3, 2016 and gave the teacher 21 days to reply, but since she did not turn up, the department terminated her from services.

The DPI office stated that social studies teacher Sharanjit Kaur, has violated Volume-II of the Punjab Civil Services Rules, 1970 which says that an interruption in the service of government employees caused by willful absence from duty or unauthorised absence without leave, shall entail forfeiture of the past service.
