The Amritsar rural police have arrested Gurnam Singh alias Gama of Sultanwind Road, who was wanted in different cases of murders and snatchings and seized a countrymade pistol of .12 bore, four bullets and 800 gram narcotic powder from him.
A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against him at Beas police station.
Amritsar rural police SSP Manmohan Singh said that Gama and his accomplices had abducted and killed a taxi driver in 2012 and put his clothes on the body along with his identity card to hoodwink police. He added that a case under Sections 302, 211, 194 and 120-B of the IPC was registered at Gharinda police station in this regard.
"During investigations, it came to the fore that Gama had done this to bail himself out of hearing of various cases against him," he said. The SSP maintained that those who had wrongly identified the man in this case were arrested and are presently in judicial custody.
Singh further said that Gama had also set fire to a factory in Sultanwind area, killing a migrant labourer in the process. "A case under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC stands registered at Sultanwind police station," he said.
The SSP further said that Gama was booked under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC when he gave the cops the slip from the court complex along with handcuffs in February this year.
