The local police arrested a 24-year-old man, accused of killing and sexually assaulting his 8-year-old nephew, here on Sunday. Chetan’s mutilated body was recovered from a vacant plot in Ashok Nagar on May 4. The victim was missing from May 3.
The accused Vicky alias Rahul was here to collect his clothes, when the police nabbed him from Jalandhar Bypass Chowk. The police also arrested one Ravi Kumar of Teerath road from Amritsar for sheltering the victim. The accused who is Vicky’s cousin was aware of the crime he had committed. A case under Sections 212 (harbouring offender) and 216 (harbouring offender who has escaped from custody or whose apprehension has been ordered) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) has been registered against him.
The accused Vicky has confessed to his crime and said that he was in inebriated condition when he committed the crime. The accused had kidnapped his brother’s son Chetan on the pretext of taking him for a bike ride. The accused took the victim to a vacant plot in Ashok Nagar where he sexually assaulted him . As the victim started crying and said that he will tell about the incident to his parents, the accused using a brick, bludgeoned the boy to death.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Dhruman Nimbale said, “The accused was afraid of being caught so he killed the child. After killing him, the accused burnt the boy’s face to hide his identity and fled from the spot.”
The DCP also added that after committing the crime the accused parked his motorcycle at a parking lot at a railway station and fled to Amritsar. Meanwhile, the victim’s kin who had been searching for the boy got to know that the boy was last seen with Vicky.
“Davinder Kumar, father of victim had gone to Ravi’s house on May 4, searching for Vicky and Chetan but did not find them there. He had alerted Ravi and asked him to inform him and police if he gets to know about Vicky’s whereabouts,” said the DCP.
“Instead of informing police or the victim’s father the accused provided Vicky shelter at his home,” the DCP added. Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, station house officer (SHO) Salem Tabri said that evidence regarding involvement of other persons have not been found yet. The police have also recovered Vicky’s motorcycle . The accused will be produced before the court on Monday. As per information Salem Tabri police had registered a case of murder against Vicky. After confirming that the boy was sexually assaulted, the police had also added section 377 of IPC .
