A domestic violence case here has led to the exposure of prenatal sex determination tests still being carried out at a clinic in the heart of the city.

Following the revelation made by the woman complainant in the case, the district health authorities have initiated an inquiry against Rajan Clinic, which had already hit headlines for wrong reasons several times. The ultrasound machine at the clinic has been sealed.

The health authorities said that during the investigation of the domestic violence case registered at Patran, the complainant Rama Jindal revealed that her husband had made her undergo sonography to determine the gender of the foetus. After finding out the gender of the foetus, he was forcing her to undergo an abortion.

However, when the plaintiff refused to get the abortion done, she was subjected to torture. Later, she filed a complaint at Patran police station. The police authorities then informed the health officials about the offence.

District family welfare and planning officer Dr Surinderpal said that following the complaint, a three-member team comprising the SMO, a gynaecologist and a paediatrician was formed to probe the issue.

It is pertinent to mention here, that in June 2011, the same clinic had been raided by the officials and ultrasound machines were sealed for four weeks.
