The district administration is planning to open shelter homes for the homeless and needy people in different parts of the city, said Kanu Thind, assistant commissioner, general & grievances, in a meeting organized at Bachat Bhawan on Thursday.
She said the district administration is committed for the proper care of homeless, needy and poor by providing them medical aid, shelter and other basic necessities. The meeting was attended by senior officials as well as representatives of various NGOs.
According to Thind, the administration has formed a committee to look into the issue, after the members of an NGO, Ann Jal Sewa Trust, met deputy commissioner (DC) Rajat Agarwal a few days ago. The committee comprises of MC commissioner, police commissioner, civil surgeon, SDM (east), SDM (west), deputy director local government among other officials.
Thind said the administration is also planning to open shelter homes for the needy in several parts of the city.
In the meeting, the representatives of other NGOs including Nishkam Sewa Ashram and Kushta Ashram gave suggestions and also assured the district administration that they would provide all possible help for this noble cause.
