The first round of counselling for admission to three undergraduate courses was completed at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) on Thursday.

For 25 seats in the Bachelor of Dairy Technology (four-year programme), 69 in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (five-year) and 10 in the Bachelor of Fisheries Science (four-year programme), the varsity received 2,706 applications, of which 2,516 candidates appeared for the common entrance test (CET).

The counselling saw a huge rush owing to the increased popularity of the courses. Officials said the rearing of milch animals is no more a subsidiary occupation and has attained the status of an industry. Also, the number of pets in urban and rural households is ever increasing, adding to the interest in veterinary science.

The second counselling for admission to these courses will be held on August 17 while the third one will take place on September 3. The status of vacant seats of all undergraduate programmes will be available on the university website a day before the scheduled date of counselling.
