African delegation visits PAU, CIPHET for training programme

A 30- member delegation from African countries visited Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) here on Tuesday.
The delegation from Liberia, Kenya and Malawi visited the institutes under the US-India-Africa triangular international training programme on “New Dimensions in Agricultural Extension Management.”
The delegation comprised members working in different disciplines of agriculture such as extension, food security, animal sciences, farm management, aquaculture, etc.
Director of agricultural extension, National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, ministry of agriculture, P Chandra Shekara led the delegation.
In his remarks, Shekara highly praised the PAU for its excellent linkages and closeness with the farming community, and for the cooperation among the administrative, academic, research and extension components of the university.
The delegation also interacted with director of Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) MS Mahal.
Interacting with the delegation at CIPHET, officiating director PR Bhatnagar the delegation sought to learn about contribution of the institute in post-harvest sector and achievements. “CIPHET is among the 125 institutes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) across the country, he added.
Head of the transfer of technology division at CIPHET Deepak Raj Rai said that they would be conducting a number of hand-on- trainings, entrepreneurship development programmes, providing consultancy and contract research for dissemination of the technologies.
