After losing his maiden Lok Sabha poll from Amritsar, union defence and finance minister Arun Jaitley will make his first visit to the holy city on August 18.

The BJP stalwart, who was defeated by former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh by more than 1 lakh votes from the Amritsar constituency recently, had not visited the city after the defeat.

According to information, Jaitley, who will reach the city in the morning, will first go to his house at Green Avenue that he had bought during the election campaign. After spending some time there, Jaitley will head for an army function in the Cantonment area. The minister will also visit the border area later in the day.

Party sources said Jaitley would also pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and Durgiana Mandir.

It is learnt that Jaitley, who had made various promises for the city during his campaign, will also meet the local BJP leaders. Various leaders from the state BJP are also expected to be present.

Jaitley's wife and daughter had visited the city a couple of months ago.

Chief of Army Staff Gen Dalbir Singh will also reach Amritsar on August 17.

Meanwhile, the civic authorities are decking up the street leading to Jaitley's house. Of late, there has been a lot of activity around the house.
