After pitching its Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann against deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday said it will field heavyweights against chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and senior cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia, too.
“We will field surprise heavyweights against senior Badal and Majithia as well,” AAP’s Punjab affairs in-charge Sanjay Singh said at a press conference here. The party has declared that Mann will fight against Sukhbir, who is currently MLA from Jalalabad.
Sanjay was here to hold a meeting with AAP workers for feedback on candidates fielded by the party. Sources said several workers complained of a “weak” campaign in Bathinda region. Two candidates have already been replaced by the AAP citing weak campaigning.
The party’s Talwandi Sabo candidate Baljinder Kaur, Bathinda-rural candidate Rupinder Kaur Ruby, and Deepak Bansal from Bathinda-urban, were with Sanjay at the press conference.
Sanjay demanded a high-level judicial probe into the Nabha jailbreak, saying that the AAP smelt “a political angle and game plan” in the episode. “Even though we do not have any concrete evidence on the ruling politicians’ hands in this, we demand a judicial probe, as the conspiracy by those in power cannot be ruled out.”
