Buoyed by its victory in Panjab University elections held recently, the students' wing of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Student Organisation of India (SOI) has now decided to start a membership drive in Punjab soon in which youth would be asked to join the party.
The announcement to start the membership drive was made by SOI zonal president Meetpal Singh Dugri. He was addressing a gathering during a function at the Tajpur Road organised by party leaders, including Harman Dhillon, Sukhjinder Lehal and Jagmohan Singh.
While speaking on the occasion, Dugri said the social activities and contribution of the SOI in redressing grievances of students led to a thumping majority for the party in the PU elections.
Dugri said after the PU election results, a large number of youth wish to join the SOI and they have decided to start a membership drive for the same.
SAD MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon said it is for the first time that any student wing has won the PU elections with such a huge margin. "The election results have proved that youth of the state have full faith in Akali Dal's student wing," said Dhillon.
The organisers also honoured Ranjit Singh Dhillon, SOI leaders Meetpal Singh Dugri, secretary general Prabhjot Singh Dhaliwal. Surinder Singh Grewal, Raja Kang, Jaspreet Singh Kaka, Assa Jawadi, Harmeet Singh, Prince Kang, Gugu Dugri, Cheema, Nipun Deep, Mehakdeep Chawla and Magan Oberio were also present on the occasion.
