With Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa visiting the US and former state Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh away from Patiala, new alignments have started taking place in the Punjab Congress as senior party leaders Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Lal Singh and Brahm Mohindra held a closed-door meeting here on Sunday.

In a two-hour meeting at Mohindra's house, the three discussed the "demoralization" of the party cadre and the strategy to galvanize the party.
The meeting is considered politically important as state Congress vice-president Lal Singh has reservations over the appointment of Bajwa as the state party president, while Bhattal and Mohindra are arch rivals of Capt Amarinder.

The 'friendship' of Mohindra and Lal Singh is a new dimension in Patiala politics as both are not on "good terms" with local MP Preneet Kaur, who is facing a tough time after the defeat of her Son Raninder Singh from Samana.
During Bajwa's maiden visit to Patiala after becoming the state party chief, Lal Singh had accused Preneet of not inviting Capt Amarinder Singh to the event.

Preneet had opposed the ticket to Mohindra from Patiala rural, a seat which she wanted for her son Raninder Singh in the assembly elections.

Lal Singh, without naming any person, had openly blamed that 'some forces' had tried to defeat him in the last assembly elections.

Though Preneet Kaur is trying to win over all leaders, and even had visited Mohindra's house some time back.

After the meeting and attending a function, the three had lunch at residence of Lal Singh, where former mayor Vishnu Sharma joined them for parleys.
Meanwhile, the leaders played down the issue. "It was a routine meeting,"

said Lal Singh and Mhindra. However, they agreed some important matters of the state Congress were discussed, which they would not share with the media and would raise only at the party platform.
