Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that Ahmedgarh will be given the grade of sub-division in the next cabinet meeting which will be held in the coming 15 days.
The deputy CM was in town on Friday to inaugurate the sewa kendra and to lay the foundation stone of various other development projects.
Badal said Shiromani Akali Dal had taken development to the next level in the state. He said Punjab was the only state in the nation which was running numerous welfare schemes for its residents.
Apart from inaugurating a sewa kendra, Badal laid the foundation stone of the new grain market which will be constructed for Rs 50 crore and also laid the foundation stone of basic development work including sewarage of the city which will be carried out by spending Rs 21.5 crore.
Addressing the gathering at the old grain market, Badal said soon Ahmedgarh will become a sub-division after which development work will be carried out faster.
However, this was the first visit of a prominent leader in Ahmedgarh in the nine-year rule of the SAD-BJP government.
He said 332 sewa kendras in urban cities have started working from Friday and 3,000 more such service points in different villages will start working from next month.
He said next month he will hold sangat darshans in Malerkotla and Ahmedgarh where they will distribute grants worth Rs 10 crore.
