Raising the banner of revolt against the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government and the Karnal legislator Sumita Singh, member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Suresh Gupta Madlauda on Monday announced to launch 'jan jagriti yatra' against the shoddy development in the Karnal assembly segment.
A resident of Panipat district, Madlauda is a member of the anti-Hooda camp led by the union minister Kumari Selja and Rajya Sabha member Birender Singh.
Showing his keen interest to contest next assembly elections from here, the AICC member claimed that he had the blessings of Selja and Singh.
“I will start four-month yatra from December 1and cover the entire Karnal assembly segment. My aim is to highlight the issue of neglect of the constituency in terms of development,” said Madlauda, while announcing to collect signatures of one lakh people to support his tirade.
In a scathing attack on the two-time Congress legislator Sumita Singh, Madlauda alleged that the MLA was supporting the land mafia.
“Sumita Singh has done nothing except buying land and promoting illegal residential colonies in the area. In her nine-year tenure in the assembly, she has failed to bring any people-oriented project to the segment,” he alleged at a press conference.
The rebel leader said that the worst affected projects were Kalpana Chawla Government College and Hospital (KCGMCH), solid waste management project and new bus stand. He said that all these projects were hanging fire for more than a decade.
“Agreeing to the long-pending demand, the chief minister in July, 2010, had announced to construct a medical college in the memory of late astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Its foundation stone was laid on November 18, 2012, but nothing has come as yet,” he said.
Demanding that the medical college should be shifted out of the city, the AICC member said that his several representations to the state government for the people-centric demands had failed to evoke response.
“Several panchayats have already made offers to give up to 100-acres of land free of cost for a super-specialty health facility in the public sector. But the Karnal MLA who has invested heavily in the real estate around the site of the upcoming medical facility is now supporting to build a college on 42-acres of land in the congested locality,” he alleged.
Madlauda also opposed the demolition of a memorial raised in the memory of policemen for the widening of road for the medical college.
Similarly, the solid waste management plant inaugurated by Hooda last year is non-functional and the Congress MLA had failed to shift the bus stand to a new site to ease the traffic congestion in the city, he said.
Madlauda said that Karnal had created its niche in the production of basmati rice and manufacturing of agricultural implements, but the MLA had failed to do anything for their promotion.
MLA to write Sonia, Hooda
Rubbishing the charges levelled by her party colleague, the Karnal MLA said that she would write to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the chief minister about the “misconduct” of Suresh Gupta Madlauda.
“The state government has cleared Rs 137 crore for the first phase construction of the KCGMCH, which is coming up in my segment. I have successfully implemented several augmentation projects of electricity and improved water and sewer networks. Several other development projects are underway in the constituency,” she said.
The MLA said that she maintained a clean public image and Madlauda was leveling false allegations as he wanted to contest elections from Karnal.
“Madlauda, who is a resident of Panipat district, had contested elections from Karnal in 2001and had forfeited his security deposit,” she said.
