Condemning the amendment to ‘ardas’ (prayer) made at a gurudwara in United Arab Emirates (the UAE), Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has said that the five Sikh high priests will discuss the matter and take action against the violators of ‘maryada’ (religious code).
He issued a statement on Tuesday here that the amendment had hurt the Sikh community. “Nobody has the right to make changes to ‘ardas’ and thereby change history. It will not be tolerated,” he said.
The amendment came during a programme in the UAE in November when excommunicated former Akal Takht jathedar Darshan Singh went there to preach religious ethics.
Criticising the amendment, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has written to the Akal Takht, highest temporal seat of Sikh faith, to take action in the case.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar issued a that “This violation of ‘panthic maryada’ can never be forgiven”.
