Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Saturday condemned the racist attack on Sikh youth Supninder Singh Khehra and disrespect to his turban in Canada’s Quebec City.
The Toronto Sikh man is still recovering after drunken assault on him last Saturday by strangers caught on video. In a press release, the highest temporal leader of Sikhs said: “Sikhs throughout the world pray for the well-being of mankind daily, help people in distress, and work on key posts in various countries. Yet they have to face racist attacks, which is unfortunate.”
Giani Gurbachan Singh said Sikhs had failed to make the world aware of their separate identity and a long history of sacrifices for even other countries. He asked the Sikh diaspora not to quarrel with each other but rather promote create awareness about the faith.
He asked Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Punjab government to take up the matter of hate crimes against Sikhs with respective countries.
