Terming the UK court's decision in the Lt Gen Kuldip Singh Brar (retd) attack case as too harsh, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Wednesday said the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) would be asked to take up the matter with the UK Embassy in New Delhi.

He said, "Various Sikh organisations and members of the Sant Samaj had met me and shown their displeasure over the harsh punishment handed out to those who allegedly attacked Brar in London. It is felt that the punishment is inhuman and too harsh for the injury."

He said though it is the decision of the court, they felt it must be relooked into. The SGPC would be asked to take up the matter and contact the UK embassy and get the case relooked into, he added. Meanwhile, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar also termed the sentence as "too harsh".

"The punishment is too much. It is harsh," said the SGPC chief.

A UK court on Tuesday handed out punishment to four people, including a woman, in the attack. The punishment ranges between 10 and 14 years.
