A day after the Amritsar police lathicharged the agitating Congress workers and leaders that resulted in injuries to PPCC general secretary Lalli Majithia, the urban wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) burnt the effigy of PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa alleging that the Punjab Congress was holding protests to earn publicity.

Starting their march from the SAD office, the workers led by urban body chief Upkar Sandhu burnt Bajwa's effigy at Kitchlew Chowk.

They raised slogans against the PPCC president.

"After a huge revolt in the Punjab Congress, Bajwa has got panicked. Therefore, the PPCC chief and party workers are making efforts to get publicity."

The Akali workers also raised slogans in favour of cabinet minister Bikram Majithia saying the latter was being defamed under a conspiracy hatched by the Congress.

The Congress has been protesting against Majithia ever since Jagdish Bhola hinted at his involvement in the drub business a few days back.

When Congress workers moved towards Majithia's residence on Wednesday, the Amritsar police used force against them.
