Raising questions over the use of grants distributed at the chief minister’s programmes, two groups of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) clashed at a sangat darshan of CM Parkash Singh Badal at Sehna Khera village in his segment Lambi on Monday. Three men were injured in the clash that erupted just after the CM’s cavalcade left the village.

Arguments began in Badal’s presence after a former sarpanch, Jaswant Singh, expressed apprehensions of corruption in grants given to the incumbent Akali sarpanch. Jaswant told the CM that the grants should rather be given to the state department concerned.

The CM later left without announcing any grants, but the matter escalated thereafter and the clash left two men from Jaswant’s group — Thana Singh and Sukhdev Singh — and a current panchayat member, Girdour Singh, injured.

Girdour was admitted to the civil hospital at Gidderbaha while the two others were at the Lambi hospital. Neither group had filed any police complaints so far.
