Youth Akali Dal (rural) president Yadwinder Singh Yadu and his accomplices are charged with firing at two of his rivals sitting inside a car in Khanna on Sunday evening and killing a teenage boy in the incident.

The victim, Kulwinder Singh (16) of Gosla village near Khanna, died on the spot outside a restaurant on the Malerkotla road, while another man in the SUV was moved to SPS Apollo Hospital here with a bullet in the chest. A heavy police force now guards the medical facility.

Amrinder Singh of Khanna, who is injured, is Yadu's old rival. In the attack that came around 6pm, Kulwinder Singh and he had more than 10 bullets fired at them. The attackers fled brandishing weapons in the air. The witnesses called the police, who moved Amrinder Singh to hospital.

Yadu, who interferes in college politics as well, is reported to have attacked Amrinder Singh twice in the past. "Amrinder Singh has identified the attacker in the latest case to be Yadwinder Singh Yadu," Khanna's senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sushil Kumar said here on Sunday, confirming that the procedure to register a case of murder and attempt to murder against Yadu was on but denying any knowledge of the political connections of the accused.
