Jagdev Singh has been arrested, and his son Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, accomplice Bogar Singh and one unidentified person are at large.
Head constable Malkit Singh of Butter Bakhua village in Muktsar district, who, along with a home guard, was posted at Killi Nihal Singh Wala police post in Bathinda, was deputed at Virk Kalan village in view of the inauguration of Bathinda civil airport on Sunday. Malkit had parked his vehicle along the road when Lakhwinder and his accomplices crossed by on a tractor that left scratches on the car. Arguments ensued between the two sides. Lakhwinder and his accomplices, who were allegedly drunk, came out with sticks and beat up Malkit , before he was allegedly paraded naked on the tractor trolley in the village.
The cop was then taken to the sarpanch Jagdev SIngh’s house where he, too, allegedly beat up the policeman, who had to be admitted to the Bathinda civil hospital. The head constable in the past had twice arrested Lakha, who, as per the police, faces over a dozen criminal cases.
Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma, however, denied that cop was paraded naked. “Cop’s clothes were torn in the attack. Accused put him the tractor and took him to the sarpanch’s house from where a police team rescued him,” he said. Police on Sunday also rounded up three people who were accused of giving shelter to Lakha after the incident.
