Akali sarpanch booked for criminal breach of trust

The district police have booked the Akali sarpanch of Dan Singh Wala village for alleged criminal breach of trust as he did not pay back the money kept as surety with him for the settlement of a dispute between two parties.

On a complaint by Balkar Singh, a resident of the same village, the police have booked sarpanch Tirath Singh under Section 406 of the Indian Penal Code.

Station house officer (SHO), Nehianwala police station, Sandeep Singh Bhatti, said an amount of Rs 6 lakh was deposited with the sarpanch by the complainant to settle a dispute with another resident of the village and after, settlement of the issue, an amount worth Rs 1.30 lakh was left with the sarpanch, which he was supposed to pay him back, but he has failed to do so for the past over one year.

"A case against the sarpanch has been registered after an inquiry and the police were conducting raids to nab him," said Bhatti.
