As the consumption of alcohol in open has become a menace causing inconvenience to the residents, commissioner of police on Wednesday ordered complete ban on it, saying that action would be taken against those found drinking alcohol on roadsides and in public places.
Police commissioner Pramod Ban had received several complaints against the menace of alcohol consumption at public places due to which the ban has been imposed. There have been several cases of harassment, and even fights on roads due to drinking in open. Accidents were also reported due to alcohol consumption in cars.
Commissioner said, “Anyone found drinking alcohol in public places will be punished under the law. Orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will remain effective for the next two months.”
On the other hand, orders to ban black films on vehicles have also been issued.
Ban said that it came to his notice that many persons have pasted black films on the windows of their vehicles that could be used for criminal activities. After the Supreme Court guidelines, Ludhiana police have issued ban orders against the use of black films.
