Power infrastructure major Alstom T&D India said on Wednesday that it has won a Rs 161 crore contract from state-run Power Grid Corp for supplying transmission equipment across north India.

"Alstom T&D India has secured a Rs 161 crore contract from Power Grid for upgrade transmission substations at 14 sites across five Indian states, and 765 KV reactors at Bhiwani (Haryana)," the company said in a statement.

The expansion will aid reliable power supply in north India by reducing transmission line overloading and improving grid stability, the statement added.

Substations to be upgraded include one at Bhiwani and also substations at Hissar, Allahabad, Kanpur, Singrauli, Kota, Koteshwar, Rajpura, Panchkula, Patiala, Dhuri, Makhu, Muktsar and Nakodar in the northern region of the country, Alstom said.

The turnkey project covers design, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of substation equipment, alongwith civil works.

"Over 50% of India's 765 KV extra-high voltage substations are built with Alstom technology and solutions, demonstrating the organisation's contribution to the transmission backbone of the country," the company said.
