Congress candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday appealed to all his former party colleagues, who had joined other parties, to return home, stating it was the right time for homecoming.

"I understand the reasons, circumstances and pressures that forced you to leave the party, but now the situation and circumstance have changed, let us make a new beginning,"he said in a statement directed towards those party men who left the Congress and joined hands with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The former Punjab chief minister claimed that he was in touch with many of his former colleagues, who had confided in him the desire to return home. "I know that none of them are feeling comfortable in their new parties, especially in the SAD, and they are totally disillusioned,"he claimed: "All of them were cheated and deceived into leaving the Congress with several promises that proved to be false."

"The party's doors are open to all of them to return and they will all be given due respect and honour they deserve. Sometimes the circumstances lead to judgment of error,"he observed: "Same thing happened with most of my colleagues, but it is never too late to correct the errors and make the right kind of amendments."

In his appeal, Capt said: "The Congress has a different and distinguished culture and character and no Congressman can feel comfortable anywhere else. That is why they are feeling alienated and suffocated in other parties and are keen to return and waiting for the right opportunity,"he said, while hoping that most of them will be back home very soon as the "right opportunity has now come".
