The additional district and session judge, Bimlesh Tanwar, on Tuesday sentenced a man and his parents to ten years rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife for dowry.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7000 each on Rajesh, his father Surinder and his mother Suman, residents of village Magharpur in the Nariangarh sub-division.

The woman's father, Ishwar Chand, told the court that his daughter married Rajesh in 2011 and was ever since harassed for bringing insufficient dowry.

He said Rajesh and his family had asked his daughter to give them Rs 4 lakh for business purposes, but when she failed to do so killed her by poisoning in August 2013.

Sources have told HT that a post-mortem examination did find out poison in the deceased woman's body.
