Even as the admission process is underway, the Punjabi University administration has not disclosed the fee structure of various courses in the online prospectus, leaving the students in a quandary.
Although the information booklet provided by the university says that the heads of the respective departments may be contacted about the fees, neither the department heads nor the staff had any information themselves.
"What is the point of carrying out online admissions if we have to visit or contact different departments to get information about the fees," said Ravneet Singh, an applicant.
However, the university's dilemma over increasing the fee for this academic session has prevented it from uploading the information on its website. In 2012 and 2013, the authorities increased the fee of many courses by 25-30%. Later, they succumbed to pressure from students, reducing it to 10%.
"We have submitted our proposal regarding fee hike and the university's higher authorities will take a final decision on it. We cannot declare information on the basis of a tentative proposal," said a department head.
Coordinator of admission cell professor Balwinder Singh Tiwana said detailed fee structure for the different courses will be uploaded within two or three days.
