Amritsar: Cold claims three lives in three days

The prevailing cold wave has claimed yet another life in the city with the police recovering the body of another unidentified person from Daburji on Sunday. This is the third death in three consecutive days.

Assistant sub-inspector Maan Singh, of Sultanwind police station, who is investigating the matter, said that efforts are being made to identify the deceased.

The extreme weather had claimed the lives of two unidentified person on Friday and Saturday as well.

Mist prevailed through the day in Amritsar on Monday. Faint sunshine was witnessed at around 1:00 PM.

The maximum and minimum temperatures of the day were recorded at 15.8 degrees (-3 degrees departure from normal) and 4.6 degrees (2 degrees departure from normal), respectively. The weather bureau has predicted mainly clear sky for Amritsar from January 6 to January 11 with the maximum temperature likely to range between 16 and 17 degrees and the minimum temperatures likely to be between three and four degrees during these days.

The weather man has also warned of fog or dense fog (visibility less than 200 metres) and cold day conditions at a few places in Punjab and Haryana. As per the outlook for the subsequent four days, mainly dry weather would prevail, while there is a possibility of fog or dense fog at a few places.
