Additional commissioner of police Ketan Patil said, “According to complainant Gurdeep Singh, who is posted as guard at the depot, around five men entered the depot. First, they beat up cashier Maninder and snatched the keys of the safe from him. When the guard intervened, they beat him up and left him bleeding. Then they took away the cash from the safe.”

Patil said, “Normally, there is not so much cash in the depot, but since there were a couple of bank holidays, they had kept it at the depot.”

The police have registered a case under Sections 459 and 380 of the IPC at the Civil Lines police station.

The police were working on various angles. It is also learnt that that the accused held the cashier hostage in a room before taking away the cash.
