A trinket shopkeeper at Putlighar Bazaar was shot dead by two unidentified armed miscreants late on Saturday night here.

Police said two miscreants came to the shop of the victim, Ankush, a resident of the same locality, and demanded money at the gunpoint.

Though the victim handed over them `6,000, the miscreants shot him dead, said police after the preliminary investigation.

Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh told Hindustan Times that the incident took place around 10pm on Saturday and police were investigating into the murder.

“We got CCTv recording of the shop and police would be examining the footages for a lead. The accused will be arrested soon,” said the police commissioner.

This is the second incident of robbery at the gunpoint at Putlighar Bazaar in the past three days; earlier, miscreants robbed a shopkeeper of `6,000, in which a person was injured in the firing.
