How do women feel safe in public places when a couple of teenagers could dare to tease and assault two women police officers on duty at Chowk Nat Peer on New Year's Eve? One of them, a student of Class 11 in a local school, was arrested later. The other, his senior from school,.

The Amritsar City Police have booked two persons, both school students under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) 354-C (watching or capturing the image of a woman engaging in a private act) and 354-D IPC (following a person and contacting, or attempting to contact such a person to foster personal interaction repeatedly, despite a clear indication of disinterest by such person).

The case has been registered at Cantonment Police Station on the complaint of one of the lady constables, who alleged that she was on duty along with another lady constable at Chowk Nat Peer on New Year's Eve, when the accused came on a motorcycle and attempted to attack them. She maintained that the accused passed vulgar comments on them and also misbehaved with them.

ASI Sangeet Kaur, of Cantonment Police Station, who is investigating the matter, said that one of the accused has been arrested, while efforts are being made to arrest the other accused in the case. "The arrested accused is a student of Plus One in a local school, while the other accused is a student of Plus Two," she said.

She said that as of now the case appeared to be that of teasing by passing lewd comments and performing vulgar actions to which the lady constables had objected. "The accused had passed vulgar comments and had attempted to assail the lady constables on duty. Further investigations are being held into the matter," she said.
