Twelve members of the Gujjar community, who were stranded for many hours after a sudden rise in the Ujj river's level in the Bamial sector near the India-Pakistan border, were airlifted in a helicopter sent by the Indian Air Force from Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir).
"The Gujjars, who had entered the river along with their cattle, got trapped in the fast currents of the Ujj river," Pathankot deputy commissioner Siben C said. The DC added that he sought help from the Pathankot air force station, following which a helicopter was sent from Udhampur to rescue the Gujjars.
He stated that as per reports, the river level rose due to heavy rain in the Ramban sector of J&K. Siben said he would seek help from the state government for the crop and cattle loss suffered by the Gujjar community.
