Two persons were killed and 12 others injured when a tourist bus rammed into a stationary truck on the Amritsar-Jalandhar national highway on Friday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Arbindu Rai (30). The identity of the second one is being ascertained.
All the tourists belonged to West Bengal and were coming to Amritsar to pay obeisance at Harmandar Sahib and visit other places of interest.
As per the police, the accident took place early in the morning near Jandiala, 17 km from here.
The police said the bus was moving at a high speed and the driver reportedly fell asleep and lost control over the vehicle.
After hitting the truck, the bus toppled over the main divider and landed on the other side of the road.
The bus driver, Mushtaq Alam, has been booked for negligence.
The condition of some of the injured passengers is said to be serious. They have been admitted to hospital. Most of them were sleeping when the accident took place.
