A 28-day general orientation course-92 was inaugurated in the Academic Staff College of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 15 teachers from various parts of the country are participating in this course.

Prof MK Surappa, director, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, who inaugurated the course, said, "The aims and objectives of the Academic Staff Colleges are to enhance the teaching skills of the teachers in the university system."
He said that the advancement in the field of information technology has brought about a revolution in the field of education.

Talking about the pros and cons of the online teaching, Prof Surappa pointed out that the regular classroom teaching needs to be supplemented with the online teaching in order to make optimum use of it.

He lamented that the number of suitable teachers and researchers is declining despite the availability of glut of educational institutes.
