BSF seized 4 kg of heroin and fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs. 7.83 lakh from near a border outpost along the Indo-Pak border here today.
BSF DIG M F Farooqui said today that late last night, troops deployed in the area observed suspicious movement along the border and challenged the smugglers to surrender.
But they did not pay any heed, prompting the troops to open fire. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of water channel and uneven ground surface.
In the morning, a massive search operation was launched and the consignment of heroin and fake Indian currency were recovered from the spot, Farooqui said.
BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to strengthen border so as to check narcotics smuggling in view of ongoing cultivation and monsoon season, and also to check the activities of anti-national elements along Punjab border with Pakistan, the DIG said.
