50 people booked during Amritsar bandh

The city police have registered cases against 50 people for allegedly beating up people and forcibly entering the premises of some shops during the Amritsar bandh on Monday.

Two separate cases in this regard were registered in the Gate Hakima and the E Division police stations.

In the first case registered at E division police station, Gurcharan Singh complained to the police, "When I stepped out of the shop, a group of people attacked me with sticks and swords. When I shouted for help, they ran away."

The police registered a case against three persons -- Manish, Mohit and Pardeep. Around 25-30 unidentified people were also booked. The case was registered under the sections 452, 427, 148, 149 of the IPC respectively.

In another case, complainant Jaswinder Singh told the police, "When I was sitting near my shop, unidentified people came and started shouting 'bandh'. Later, they beat me up."

The police booked one Happy and 35 unidentified people at the Gate Hakima police station.
