Vehicle number "AK-0047", reminiscent of the gun used by extremists in the days of militancy in Punjab, fetched a whopping Rs. 7 lakh during an auction of fancy vehicle numbers of PB07 AK series here on Tuesday.

The buyer of this number, Kulbir Singh of Kattowal village, has reserved it for a Fortuner he intends to buy. "I will fix the number on my Activa scooter for the time-being," he told reporters, pointing out that he owned two sedans.

There were 15 other bidders vying for the number. The bid started at a reserve price of Rs. 3,000.

Yadwinder Singh of Chandigarh bought the number PB07 AK-0001 for Rs. 2.10 lakh. The number 0007 fetched Rs. 1.50 lakh and 0009 went for Rs. 1 lakh. The transport department earned Rs. 24 lakh from the auction.
