Workers and leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday burnt the effigies of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa and the arrested drug smuggler Jagdish Singh Bhola in Majitha.

Terming the allegations levelled against Bikram Singh Majithia as baseless, the Akali workers in Majitha said, "The Congress is targeting Majithia to gain cheap publicity. Akali workers will not tolerate this."

Raising slogans against Bajwa, the workers of Youth Akali Dal and local leaders passed through the streets of Majitha.

The Akali leaders warned the Congress of launching a massive protest if they did not stop the "malicious and misleading propaganda" against their leader.

Meanwhile, activists of the Istri Akali Dal also burnt the effigy of the PPCC outside Hall Gate in Amritsar.
