Former cricketer and Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife on Thursday said, “There is no question of Sidhu contesting 2014 Lok Sabha polls”. The latest comment came after she triggered controversy by her Facebook comment that Sidhu had “gone back to the profession where he is respected” because he was “made to feel suffocated in the system for his honesty”.

Sidhu, who is hosting a television show in the ongoing T20 cricket tournament, has not been to his constituency since October, which has prompted charges that he has been neglecting his political duties.

The three-time MP, according to political observers, is nursing a grudge against the BJP leadership for denying him a post in the party’s national executive, but making former Amritsar MLA Laxmi Kanta Chawla a vice-president.

While Sidhu’s wife and Amritsar-East MLA Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu left the state BJP aflutter by her facebook post on Sunday, the MP remained unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts.

“The party will support Sidhu in the coming polls,” said state BJP chief Kamal Sharma.
