After taking a vow at the martyrs’ memorial in Jallianwala Bagh to cleanse the political system, activist Anna Hazare launched his “Jantantra Yatra” on Sunday.

The 18-month yatra is aimed at mobilising six crore people. But despite the lukewarm initial response, Hazare chose to describe it as the beginning of the “second war of independence”.

“If we get the backing of six crore people, the government will be forced to bow before this jan shakti (people’s power),” he said, addressing the gathering outside the Jallianwala Bagh.
