Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday demanded strict action as per the Sikh religious code of conduct against State Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, for an alleged blasphemous statement he made at an election rally in Majitha in Amritsar.

He appealed to the Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh, to summon Majithia at Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, and take action as per the religious code of conduct.

Bajwa, who is seeking re-election from this parliamentary constituency, in a statement lashed out at Majithia, who had spoken at an election rally at Majithia in Amritsar yesterday to seek votes for BJP senior leader Arun Jaitley, who is contesting from Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh today lodged a complaint with Chief Election Commissioner, V S Sampath and demanded Majithia be banned to address public rallies with immediate effect in view of the statement he had made.
